This presentation will cover much of the life of Major Amos Spafford and the War of 1812 in the Maumee River Valley. Amos will be portrayed by Frank Butwin, who occasionally also portrays Francis Scott Key, General Anthony Wayne, President John Tyler, and a soldier of the War of 1812. Portions of Amos’ life that will be discussed are his part in founding and surveying Cleveland, Ohio, being the local Postmaster and Customs Agent for the lower Maumee River Valley (including the current towns of Monclova, Waterville, Maumee, & Perrysburg), early postal practices, experiencing the 1st national military road (going through his postal jurisdiction), narrowly escaping death in the first few weeks of the War of 1812, and the post war growth & settlement of Northwest Ohio. Join us here at the Monclova Community Center – Ottawa Room.
