History Lecture Series – History of the Toledo Fire Department

The Monclova Historical Foundation invites you to join us on Wednesday, April 25th at 7:00pm for our next History LectureHistory of the Toledo Fire Department featuring Robert Schwanzl.

Robert Schwanzl, retired Assistant Fire Chief of Toledo, will speak about the history of the Toledo fire Department and some of the larger fires that have occurred in northwest Ohio. He will also discuss the Toledo Fire Museum, a unique educational piece right here in our backyard!

Chief Schwanzl had a 40 year career with Toledo Fire & Rescue, serving from 1958-1998. He is the current president of the Toledo Firefighter’s Museum. Robert is a life member of the Ohio Fire Chief’s Association, Past Chairman of the Local Emergency Planning Committee of Lucas County, Past Chairman of the NW Ohio Arson Seminars Committee, member of the E.M.S. Committee of Lucas County, President of the Lucas County Fire Chief’s Association and an Honorary Dean of the BGSU State Fire School. He earned an Associate Degree from Owens Community College, where he has also taught fire science, as well as being an adjunct instructor for the State Fire Academy of Ohio and the National Fire Academy.

The lecture will take place at the Monclova Community Center (Ottawa Room)  located at  8115 Monclova Road –  just 3 miles West of St. Luke’s Hospital.  Admission and parking are FREE. An elevator is located at the west entrance to the building.  Hope to see you there!
